Fishing and kayaking in Finnish Lapland

The trip can be organized as a fishing trip and can also include canoeing, canoeing excursions, and kayak fishing. We can tailor a package to your preferences if needed. Below is a sample description of the product:

During your stay, you can participate in two canoeing trips using sit-on-top kayaks. The first trip is a short one, about 3 kilometers, where the current carries the kayak comfortably. The purpose of the first trip is to get a feel for the kayak, paddling, and maneuverability. After the short trip, those who wish can continue paddling near the cabins. The second trip is longer, about 15 kilometers. This route includes both calm stretches and rapids. However, the current makes the trip feel shorter.

Thanks to their stability, the kayaks are also well-suited for fishing, and even inexperienced paddlers can safely join the trips. The kayaks are equipped with reclining seats and rod holders. The paddling routes pass through good fishing spots, so those interested can also fish on their own during the trip. After the trip, the kayaks can be used for fishing in front of the cabins

Outside of trip times, the kayaks are freely available for participants to use.

If you don’t want to go on a canoeing trip, you can stay at the campsite and fish from the shore or from a salmon boat. A salmon boat with an outboard motor is available for anglers. The area in front of our cabin is a good and salmon-rich rowing spot. If there are several salmon anglers in our group, we’ll schedule our own rowing shifts using the reservation calendar at the cabin. When rowing for salmon, we’ll slowly drift downstream and look for salmon in the current. We’ll use the motor to get back upstream. Fuel costs are not included in the package price but are split among those participating in the rowing.

Fishing from the shore is also possible at this point on the river. Salmon often appear just a cast away from the shore, so there is a chance to catch even large salmon from the shore.

We are not responsible for any fishing restrictions that may be imposed in the area; instead, we will adapt our fishing activities accordingly. In 2026, the spawning closure on the river was from Sunday at 7:00 PM to Monday at 7:00 PM (likely the same in 2027). During this time, all fishing on the Muonio River is prohibited. Those wishing to fish on the Muonio River will therefore likely have to wait until 7:00 PM on the first evening. Before that, it is possible to fish on the Äkäsjoki River. Fishing licenses are not included in the trip price, and each person is responsible for obtaining their own. Permits can be purchased online, and salmon fishing permits are also available at our lodge.

This travel package is available in two lengths: 3 nights and 2 nights. The package does not include transportation; participants must make their own way to Rantalan Majat. Transportation to the kayaking trips is included in the price.

Our accommodation, Rantalan Majat, is located a short drive from the services in Kolari. Accommodation is in rooms equipped with a kitchen, toilet, shower, and sleeping arrangements for two. An extra bed can be added to accommodate 1–2 additional guests. Linens and final cleaning are included in the price.

The trip price includes accommodation, 1 motorized salmon boat, guided kayaking trips, access to a sauna, and free use of kayaks. A local fishing guide (rower) is available as an additional service for an extra fee, subject to availability. Transportation from Kittilä Airport can also be arranged for an additional fee, if needed.
